I have lived in Alaska since 1976, first in Pelican, a fishing village of 250 people and now in Sitka, a town of 8,000 people - positively cosmopolitan in comparison.  I have been in commercial fishing since 1981 which has taught me great patience, peacefulness and, when caught in an 80 knot blow with seas of 35 feet, a huge respect for the sheer power of it all - and, yes, it was scary.
